Welcome!

Hello, my name is Shetay Ashford. Since my senior year in college, it has been my passion to use my technology and entrepreneurial skills to empower others to fulfill their purpose in the 21st century. Specifically, I am on a mission to launch the Technology 4-LIFE Career Readiness Institute for youth ages 12-18.

I began to develop the concept for Technology 4-LIFE in 2005 as a 12-week technology literacy program for students at Blake High School. This program was funded by a Department of Education grant through the University of South Florida. I believe that a Ph.D. in Career and Workforce Education will help me further develop this program into a sustainable model.

In 2011, I obtained a MS in Interdisciplinary Studies, specializing in Career and Technical Education from Texas State University, where I received the Best Researcher Award for my thesis on “How Social Entrepreneurship Creates Social Value to Alleviate Poverty”. I also have twelve years of experience in the High Tech and Management Consulting industries as a Technical Trainer and Global Training Program Manager where I worked for Fortune 500 companies such as Dell, General Electric and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Currently, I am a Consultant with Pilgrim Software here in Tampa, Florida.

I believe that pursuing the Ph.D. in Career and Workforce Education is the next logical step in my career. In order to develop sustainable models, evidence-based practices must be utilized. Moreover, in order to impact cities, communities, and nations, I must be engaged at the policy level. I believe that through this Ph.D. program, I will further develop my research skills and gain the credibility that I need to affect change on a greater scale.

On a personal note, my first name, Shetay, means "born to sing". As a singer-songwriter, I enjoy sharing my deep faith and spirituality through music as a means to encourage others. Music has been a great part of my life since the tender age of four. I also gain deep satisfaction from serving the community and mankind.
